God is not unreasonable. He is fair. Yet some people are stumped by seemingly impossible-to-keep commandments, such as found in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-21).
“Rejoice evermore”
“Pray without ceasing”
“In every thing give thanks”
Still stumped? Rejoice! God’s commandments are enablements in disguise. Abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ and Him abiding in you, He Himself can and will do in you, for you, through you and with you what no man can do, and that is, to continually please God the Father.
The secret is to live by the living of Another inside us, our indwelling Lord Jesus Christ. He Himself testified,
“For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.” (John 12:49).
“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.”
(John 5:19,20).
God has made it possible for us to testify, together with Isaiah, “Lord, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.” (Isaiah 26:12).
“Lord, You will ordain peace for us, for You have also wrought in us and for us all our works” (Isaiah 26:12 Amplified).
Prayer: Thank You Father, that what is impossible for man is possible for God. You have flooded me with peace and delivered me from all my fleshly striving. No sweat! It is You who has done in me, through me, for me and with me all my good works. To You alone belongs all the glory. In the Name of the Great Doer, my Indweller, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
