“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness: Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:9-14).
All the matters mentioned above form an excellent prayer for your brethren in Christ. As you pray, you will often find yourself asking that all these things would become a reality in your own life.
Verse 13 mentions that we have been translated (transferred) into the kingdom of God’s Son, one Lord Jesus Christ. This is crucial; essential for every believer to realize.
The tendency of many who are saved is to merely want the Saviorhood of Jesus. They want to buy the cheapest fire insurance–just enough to avoid ending up to hell.
All believers must be helped to realize that they need the Lordship of Jesus as well as His salvation. Someone has said, “If Jesus is not Lord of all in your life, He is not Lord at all!”
Therefore every believer must take Jesus Christ to be His Lord!
Lord (Kurios in Greek) means God, Chief, Boss, Master and King.
Our relationship to the Lord should be like that of a slave to his master. To Him we render absolute, immediate, and continuous obedience.
Note: (By now, dear reader, you might be desiring to word your very own prayer, based on Colossians 1:9-14. If so, that is wonderful! Feel free to write it down hereunder in pencil as you pray it to God!)
