Only God is sovereign, not you nor I.
“For God had said to Moses, `If I want to be kind to someone, I will. And I will take pity on anyone I want to.’ And so God’s blessings are not given just because someone decides to have them or works hard to get them. They are given because God takes pity on those he wants to” (Romans 9:15,16 TLB).
God loved Jacob and hated Esau before they were born. Is that fair? To the unbelievers it does not seem so. But to the believers this is easy, simply because God is Sovereign and because God knows the future! God knew beforehand that Jacob was going to love Him and that Esau would be indifferent, only caring for the gifts God gives, not for the Giver Himself!
Do you want to be increasingly loved by God? Do you want to receive Him, the Giver, more and more? It is not difficult. Just remember to seek Him far more than any gift He could give you.
Paradoxically, if you so do, you will also receive God’s gifts! But if you only care to get what God gives, while neglecting God Himself, you will be disappointed.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things shall be added unto you.” Reverse that and you get nothing!
One thing is absolutely sure, “God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him!” So, seek Him! Jesus promised,
“Ask and it shall be given unto you. Seek and you will find. Knock and it shall be opened unto you.”
If you honestly seek God, you will definitely find Him, for He truly is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.
Let us pray:
“Omniscient Father, You know all things. You know my heart. No one can hide his thoughts from You! So I might just as well be fully honest and transparent with You! You know that I am tempted to want nice things. But I want You more; Your Person, Yourself, more than anything else. I would rather go without everything and have You, than to have everything but not You.
May You want to be kind to me. May You want to take pity on me. You made it so easy for me to seek You and find You, since You abide inside of me. So, greatly encouraged, I seek You, I seek to commune with You. I am encouraged by the fact that You are a rewarder of those that diligently seek You. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.”
