How many promises has God given us? One man of God counted 7,837. Another discovered over 32,000. Who is right? Both.
“Both?” you ask, incredulously.
The reason is this: As you read God’s Word, certain things are quickened to you. These become God’s promises to you. Some experience this more. Others less. To each according to the measure of faith that has been given to him. It is similar as when the Israelites gathered manna every morning. He who gathered much did not have a surplus and He who gathered little did not lack; both had gathered all they could eat. I suspect that the exact number of promises in God’s Word is… (hold your breath!) INFINITE!
No, I am not exaggerating! The Author is infinite! It would not surprise me if His Word is also infinite. We know it is eternal, for three times in the gospels the Lord Jesus goes on record, saying:
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35, Mark 13:31, Luke 21:33).
“For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89).
Eternal and infinite are “identical twins” of the same family. The “genes” and the “DNA” are the same, if I may borrow genetic terminology.
Reading God’s Word is not like reading today’s newspaper, reporting events that have already happened and are obsolete. You are reading eternal words of the Eternal God Himself! They are never out-of-date.
When you prayerfully read God’s Word in the Spirit, the Eternal Holy Spirit, you are having a living dialogue with the speaking God Himself. You are in another realm, you are “out of this world!” You are in the heavenlies, in God!
God cordially invites you, as a born-again Christian, to keep exploring that you may discover how wonderful our infinite God is! There, in the unmeasurable vastness of the Holy of Holies of His intimate being, within the rent veil, you and God are friends, loving one another, (open to one another,) talking face to face.
For centuries men have dreamed of traveling through space. Only recently a few have actually experienced space travel. But God invites you to an even more wonderful, practical, precious, thrilling, and blessed adventure, every day! God is never “out for the day!” He is always available, ready, lovingly waiting for you in every page of the Bible!
Read His Word to Him, converse with Him. Living dialogues with the speaking God can be your daily experience. His blood, shed on the cross, purchased this inalienable right for you.
If you are a Christian, He has placed you inside Himself and has come inside of you. Jesus said:
“Abide in Me and I in you.”
So abide in Him. Stay inside God. You are welcome in God’s inner chambers! He loves you and longs to hear your voice reading His Word to Him and praying to Him. You have an infinite number of promises which you need to talk to God about.
