Fleas!

It can get very cold in Uruguay, South America, during the winter. Because I love to lead souls to Christ, in 1960 I spent several months preaching in Allende, a little village of run-down shacks in the northern rural area. There was no heating and the wind howled through myriads of cracks in the tiny and flimsy hut someone was letting me use for free.

Overhearing the Triune God

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” (Isaiah 6:8.)

In Isaiah 6:1-10 the prophet had a glorious, awesome vision of God in His splendid majesty. Immediately he felt his doom was sealed.

Capoeira, the Art of Brazilian Wrestling

I must tell you of a great victory Christ wrought through a team of 25 consecrated indigenous missionaries, that I helped to train in Brazil during 1986.

As usual, about 25 of them traveled to an unevangelized town and commenced their ministry, but all doors were being slammed in their faces and no one would stop to listen.

The Key to the Lord’s Prayer

“After this manner therefore pray ye: `Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,

Argentina’s Home Churches

In 1982 I was preaching in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, where I was delighted to find a very progressive association of pastors from several denominations. Intensely evangelistic and missionary minded, they love each other dearly, preach in each other’s pulpits and cooperate together to reach the lost.

It all began when God called Ivan Baker,

Removing Mountains With Real Gusto

“For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains,

A Guerilla Finds Christ

Here is an encouraging page from the archives of my memory:

In 1982 I was preaching in Bogota, Colombia, South America, when I met Guerrero, who invited me to preach in one of the churches he founded. A precious man of God, he has a heart for the lost.

Restoring Your Devastated Years

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you… And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered…” (Joel 2:25,32a).

Worshippers of the Goddess of the Sea

In 1990 my wife and I went to Brazil. I preached in Rio de Janeiro, which brings to memory this tiny grain of sand from the hour-glass of history and how I later had a part in it:

It was 9 p.m. December 31, 1978, when the little group of nervous Christians arrived at the beach.

Curing Unbelief While Increasing Faith

Scripture Reading:Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

Commentary: I can’t manufacture faith. You cannot produce it. Faith simply comes to you and to me. How? By hearing the word of God. This is guaranteed by God Himself,
